About the Role

We are recruiting a Temporary Kitchen Porter to support a busy hotel and spa in Masham. This is a hands-on, temporary position paying £14.50 per hour. You will assist the kitchen team with cleaning, basic food prep support, and general dishwashing duties, ensuring the kitchen and service areas remain hygienic and operational throughout the shift.

What You’ll Be Doing

As the Temp Kitchen Porter, your responsibilities will include:

• Washing, sanitising, and organising dishes, cookware, and utensils to support continuous kitchen service.

• Clearing, pre-rinsing and returning plates and serviceware during and after service in line with kitchen procedures.

• Maintaining cleanliness of kitchen floors, work surfaces, walk-in areas and equipment, following cleaning schedules and COSHH guidance.

• Assisting with basic food preparation tasks such as peeling, chopping and portioning under supervision, when required.

• Receiving and storing deliveries, rotating stock, checking labels and use-by dates, and assisting with basic stock movement.

• Disposing of waste and recycling appropriately and helping to keep back-of-house areas tidy and safe.

• Following food safety, hygiene and allergen procedures at all times and reporting any issues to the kitchen supervisor.

Role Expectations

This temporary role requires a practical, safety-first approach and the ability to work reliably throughout the agreed assignment. You will be expected to:

• Adhere to hotel & spa hygiene and health & safety policies at all times.

• Be punctual, presentable, and flexible with shift patterns to meet service demands, including early mornings, evenings or weekends if required.

• Communicate clearly with kitchen colleagues and managers and follow instructions from supervisors.

• Work cooperatively as part of the wider kitchen and hotel team to support smooth service delivery.

What We’re Looking For

• Previous experience in a kitchen, hospitality or catering environment is desirable but not essential; training will be provided for the right candidate.

• Basic food hygiene awareness; Level 1/2 Food Hygiene certificate is a plus but not mandatory.

• Good attention to detail, reliability and a positive attitude to physical work and repetitive tasks.

• Right to work in the UK and ability to provide references on request.

• A recent DBS check may be required for some placements; if not available, one may be requested prior to starting.
