About the Role

We are recruiting a Temporary Kitchen Assistant to support a well-regarded children’s nursery in Marylebone. This is a hands-on, temporary position paying £15.12 per hour. You will work within a small, friendly team preparing nutritious meals and snacks for children, maintaining kitchen cleanliness, and ensuring all food safety standards are met.

What You’ll Be Doing

As a Kitchen Assistant, your responsibilities will include:

• Preparing ingredients and simple meals, following menu plans and dietary requirements.

• Assisting with plated meal service and portioning for children of different ages.

• Cleaning and sanitising work surfaces, equipment, and kitchen areas to maintain a hygienic environment.

• Washing dishes, utensils, and cookware, and managing waste and recycling in line with nursery procedures.

• Following strict allergen controls and recording procedures to keep children safe.

• Receiving and storing deliveries, rotating stock, and checking labels and use-by dates.

• Working collaboratively with nursery staff to ensure smooth mealtimes and transitions.

Role Expectations

This temporary role requires a practical, safety-first approach and the ability to work reliably during the agreed assignment. You will be expected to:

• Follow nursery safeguarding and hygiene policies at all times.

• Be punctual, professional, and flexible with shift patterns as needed.

• Communicate clearly with colleagues and follow instructions from the nursery manager or chef.

What We’re Looking For

• Previous experience in a kitchen, catering, nursery, or childcare setting is desirable.

• Level 2 Food Hygiene certificate or equivalent is preferred; training may be considered for the right candidate.

• Basic allergen awareness and commitment to following allergen procedures.

• Right to work in the UK and ability to provide references on request.

• A recent DBS check is desirable; if not available, one may be required prior to starting.
