About the Setting

We are recruiting a reliable and experienced Head Chef on a temporary basis to lead kitchen operations at a well-regarded children's nursery in Nottingham. The nursery provides nurturing childcare for children aged from 6 months upwards and places a strong emphasis on healthy, balanced meals that support growth and development.

• Catering for up to 70 children across morning and afternoon sessions

• Breakfast, lunch, and afternoon snack service following planned menus and allergy requirements

• Small catering team with nursery staff assistance during mealtimes

• High standards of cleanliness, food safety and record-keeping

The Role

• Lead day-to-day kitchen operations, preparing nutritious meals for children and staff

• Plan and follow weekly menus in line with nutritional guidance and nursery policies

• Manage allergens, special dietary needs and food records accurately

• Order, receive and store food deliveries, maintaining stock rotation and minimising waste

• Ensure kitchen and food preparation areas meet food hygiene and health & safety standards

• Maintain daily records, temperature logs and paperwork required for inspections

• Work collaboratively with nursery management and key workers to support mealtimes and children’s routines

About You

• Level 2 Food Hygiene & Safety (or equivalent) certificate or willing to obtain

• Previous experience cooking in a nursery, school, care setting or similar is essential

• Knowledge of baby/child nutrition, allergens and special diets

• Organised, reliable, and able to work independently on site

• Calm, patient and comfortable working around young children

• Good communication skills and fluent English with full right to work in the UK
