The Opportunity – Kitchen Assistant (Children’s Nursery)
We are recruiting a reliable and enthusiastic Kitchen Assistant to join the catering team at a busy children’s nursery in Marylebone. This role supports the preparation and service of nutritious meals and snacks for children and staff, helping to maintain a clean, safe and welcoming kitchen environment.
You will work closely with the nursery management and childcare team to ensure dietary requirements and allergen needs are met, and that food is prepared to the highest standards of safety and hygiene. This is a hands-on position ideal for someone who enjoys working in a caring, team-oriented setting.
Key Responsibilities
Assist with the preparation and portioning of meals and snacks according to menus and dietary requirements
Follow recipes and instructions to ensure consistency and nutrition
Ensure strict adherence to food safety, hygiene and allergen procedures (HACCP awareness)
Maintain a clean and organised kitchen, including washing up, cleaning surfaces and equipment
Store and label food correctly, assist with stock rotation and basic stock checks
Support serving of meals and clearing away in a calm and efficient manner
Communicate clearly with nursery staff regarding meal times, allergies and special dietary needs
Report any food safety or maintenance concerns to the manager promptly
What We’re Looking For
Previous experience in a kitchen, catering or food preparation role is desirable but not essential
Understanding of basic food safety and hygiene; willingness to complete mandatory training
Reliable, punctual and flexible with a positive, can-do attitude
Good communication skills and the ability to work well within a team
Comfortable working around young children and following nursery safeguarding procedures
Ability to follow instructions accurately and maintain attention to detail
Additional Information
Enhanced DBS check may be required due to working in a childcare environment
Shift patterns include mornings and lunchtimes; some flexibility for early starts
Access to on-site facilities and close transport links in Marylebone
