The Opportunity

We are seeking an experienced Temp Head Cook to manage daily kitchen operations in a busy school environment. This role is ideal for a reliable, organised cook who can lead a small team, deliver nutritious meals to children, and maintain high standards of food safety and presentation. You’ll work to planned menus with scope to suggest improvements while ensuring service runs smoothly during term time.

The Role

As Temp Head Cook you will:

• Lead kitchen service during your shift, directing and supporting the team

• Prepare and cook balanced, appealing meals in line with school menu plans and nutritional guidelines

• Ensure all food safety, hygiene, and allergen procedures are followed

• Manage portion control, stock rotation, and basic ordering support

• Maintain a clean, organised kitchen and equipment

• Communicate professionally with school staff and catering managers

What We’re Looking For

• Previous experience working in a school or contract catering environment is desirable

• Minimum 2 years’ experience in a busy kitchen role, with experience leading a small team

• Good knowledge of food hygiene and allergen control (Level 2 Food Hygiene desirable)

• Reliable, punctual, and able to work to timetabled service periods

• Friendly, patient, and professional approach when working with children and school staff
