Introduction

We’re recruiting a temporary Chef de Partie to join a busy hotel kitchen in York. This is an immediate start position working alongside an experienced brigade to deliver consistently high-quality dishes for breakfast, lunch and dinner services. The role is ideal for a reliable, skilled cook who enjoys a varied rota and takes pride in delivering excellent food and maintaining high standards.

Approximate Shifts

Typical shifts include early mornings for breakfast service and split/late shifts for lunch and dinner. Shift patterns will be agreed with the venue but expect rotating shifts including weekends and occasional evenings.

Qualifications required

• Level 2 Food Hygiene (or equivalent)
• Allergen Awareness (Level 2 recommended)
• Enhanced DBS - delete as appropriate

About the Role

As Temp Chef de Partie you will be responsible for running a section to service standard, producing well-presented dishes and supporting the wider kitchen team. You will work under the guidance of the sous/head chef and help maintain consistent quality across services.

What You’ll Be Doing

Key duties include:

• Preparing and cooking dishes to menu specification and hotel standards.
• Maintaining your section during service, ensuring timings and presentation are consistent.
• Completing mise en place and prep lists to meet service demands.
• Adhering to food safety, hygiene and allergen procedures at all times.
• Following stock rotation and assisting with stock control and basic ordering as directed.
• Supporting junior kitchen staff with training and daily tasks.
• Communicating effectively with front-of-house to ensure smooth service.

Role Details

• Location: Hotel, York
• Hours: Variable; full-time temporary hours with shift patterns to be agreed
• Rate: £15.12 per hour (inclusive of holiday pay where applicable)
• Contract: Temporary (length confirmed at interview)

What We’re Looking For

• Proven experience working as a Chef de Partie or similar in a hotel, restaurant or similar setting.
• Ability to produce high-quality dishes consistently under pressure.
• Good knowledge of food safety, HACCP and allergen management; Level 2 Food Hygiene minimum.
• Strong organisational skills and attention to detail.
• Team player with clear communication skills and a professional, reliable approach.
• Flexible and adaptable with a positive, can-do attitude.

Desirable

• Formal culinary qualifications (Level 3 or equivalent) or substantial experience.
• Experience working in a hotel environment or with high-volume service.
• Valid driving licence (useful but not essential).
