About Our Client

They are now seeking a Catering Manager to take full responsibility for the day-to-day running of their catering operation at a school in Bolton — ensuring smooth operations, outstanding food service, and full compliance with client expectations and company standards.
This role is term-time only (plus two weeks), making it an excellent opportunity for someone seeking a healthy work-life balance.
Role Purpose
To manage all aspects of the school catering operation, ensuring that contractual, financial, and quality standards are consistently achieved. You will lead, support, and motivate the team to deliver a first-class service while maintaining a positive relationship with clients, staff, and pupils.
Key Responsibilities
- Manage the day-to-day catering operation, ensuring smooth and efficient service.
- Maintain professional relationships with clients, customers, and staff.
- Lead, train, and motivate your team to deliver excellent food and service.
- Ensure compliance with all administrative, hygiene, and operational procedures, including:
- Food temperature recording
- Cleaning rotas and schedules
- Food storage, labelling, and safety compliance
- Weekly reporting and administration for the Operations Manager
Financial & Operational Management
- Handle and bank cash securely, maintaining accurate records.
- Manage wage and stock costs within budget.
- Purchase supplies through approved suppliers.
- Ensure vending and catering areas are maintained to high standards.
Menu & Food Preparation
- Plan and cost menus appropriate for a school setting.
- Order, prepare, and present meals to company and safety standards.
- Maintain high standards of food hygiene and presentation.
People & Development
- Lead recruitment, induction, and training of catering staff.
- Conduct performance reviews and provide ongoing coaching and mentoring.
- Encourage professional development within your team and yourself.
Client Relations
- Maintain open communication with the client to ensure service quality and satisfaction.
- Work closely with the Operations Manager to ensure all expectations are met.
- Be approachable and available for the client regarding any on-site matters.
Requirements
- Proven catering management experience (school or education environment desirable, but not essential).
- Strong leadership, communication, and organisational skills.
- Commitment to high standards of hygiene, safety, and food quality.
- Ability to motivate and manage a small team effectively.
- Flexibility and a proactive, professional attitude.
Additional Information
- This role requires the completion of an Enhanced DBS check prior to starting. Our client will facilitate this process for the successful candidate.
