Kitchen Assistant Role in a Secondary School – Darlington
We are looking for an enthusiastic and reliable Kitchen Assistant to support the daily operations of our busy school kitchen. You will play a key part in preparing, serving, and maintaining standards of food hygiene and safety. Key Kitchen Assistant Responsibilities – School Catering Support
- Assist in the preparation and serving of hot and cold meals to students and staff.
- Ensure all kitchen and food preparation areas are clean, organized, and tidy at all times.
- Follow food safety and hygiene procedures rigorously, including allergen management and health & safety practices.
- Operate kitchen equipment safely and report any maintenance issues to the Catering Supervisor.
- Support stock rotation, basic food storage, and ordering processes as required.
- Work collaboratively with the catering team to deliver an efficient and welcoming meal service.
- Assist with dishwashing and general cleaning duties at the end of service.
Kitchen Assistant Requirements – Secondary School, Darlington
- Some experience working in a catering, kitchen, or hospitality environment preferred but not essential.
- A current Food Hygiene Level 2 certificate or willingness to gain one (training can be provided).
- Understanding of, or willingness to train in, allergen awareness and food safety practices.
- Reliable, positive, and respectful attitude toward students, colleagues, and school community.
- Ability to work as part of a motivated team in a busy school environment.
- Flexible approach to tasks and a proactive attitude toward maintaining a clean and safe kitchen.
- Willingness to undergo a DBS check (Disclosure and Barring Service) as part of safeguarding requirements.
